Dagmar Šimková Footbridge
An original architectural work connected in autumn 2018 the banks of the Otava River in Písek – the locality of Hradiště and Wenceslas suburb in the southwest of the city. The author of the design is the studio of Písek native Josef Pleskot.
About 140 m long and 3 m wide footbridge is the eighth bridge construction in Písek. It can be used by pedestrians and cyclists. From both sides, 1,5 km long cycle path and walkway links to both the town center and the industrial zone.
The work bears the name of a native of Písek and a political prisoner, Dagmar Šimková. Close to it stands villa Marta connected with the tragic fate of the Šimek family.
“If we look from Wenceslas Bank, it is an arrow shot towards Hradiště hill, and when we look from the other side, it is an arrow shot to St. Wenceslas Church. The two footbridges meet at the point where the arrows pass”, said architect Josef Pleskot.
