Municipal library
The old grammar school building on Alšovo Square, owned by the town, was demolished in the mid-19th century. To provide enough space for a new school, two neighboring houses were purchased, and the new building was completed in 1859. After a complete reconstruction, it became the new home of the Municipal Library of Písek in April 2019—an institution with a tradition dating back to 1841.
One of the most striking changes to the structure is the enclosed library courtyard, which now features a relaxation garden, an outdoor event space, and a terrace adjacent to a café and lecture hall. All departments of the library have been designed in a modern, minimalist, and highly original style.
As part of the library’s transformation, an Education Center was also established to support non-formal learning. The entire space is designed to be welcoming and residential, offering visitors plenty of places to relax. Tourists and locals alike are warmly invited to explore and enjoy the library.
