Walking for the animals around Písek
A popular destination for families with children is the Prácheňské Museum, where you can see aquariums with fish from local ponds and rivers.
In the Písek Mountains, in the suburban area of U Vodáka, you will find an enclosure where mouflons and fallow deer live in their natural environment. You can observe them from a wooden observation tower. You can also get acquainted with forest animals in the school forest Hůrky.
The unique complex of the National Stud Farm will delight all lovers of the view of the world from the horse's saddle. In addition to various events, this national cultural monument also offers regular tours.
In Nová Ves near the municipality of Čížová, there is the Makov Animal Rescue Station. It cares for injured, sick, or otherwise handicapped wild animals, nurses them, and enables their return to the wild. Visitors are also welcome here.
In the municipality of Putim, you can visit Zvířátka, a unique family-run zoo. The Řežabinec Nature Reserve – an important bird nesting site – can be found near the municipality of Ražice. It is accessible via marked hiking trails and includes an observation tower and an educational trail.
Nearby Protivín offers the Crocodile ZOO, the only one in the Czech Republic that focuses on breeding all 25 species of crocodiles. It also includes a zoological minimuseum.
