Prácheň Museum

Do your children enjoy history? Would they like to be a knight, a princess, or perhaps a blacksmith for a moment? Then be sure to visit the exhibitions of the Prácheň Museum in Písek, located within the walls of the former royal castle. It was founded by King Přemysl Otakar II. The museum has been housed there since 1902, and its newly reconstructed form received the prestigious European Museum of the Year award in 1996.

In addition to the permanent exhibitions (Prehistory and the Slavic Period, The Origins of the Castle and the City of Písek, History of the Region, Protected Areas of Písek, Mineral Wealth, Cultural Traditions of Písek, Gold in Pootaví, Fish and Fisheries, Rural Písek in the 19th Century, and the Picture Gallery of Czech Rulers), the museum increasingly invites its visitors to prestigious art exhibitions, workshops, and series of interesting lectures.

A local unique feature is undoubtedly the exhibition of live fish. In ten aquariums, you have the opportunity to see about twenty species of freshwater fish. Children will be captivated by the songs played every half hour by a historic orchestrion or the striking of the old tower clock.
